When I finally came to the next morning and checked the messages on my phone I was astonished to see that Helen and Adrian were nearly at the service station just outside Peterborough where they were meeting someone to hand over one of their passengers. I couldn’t believe how fast they had made it over from Calais, handed over dogs at Folkstone then driven to Cambridge for another delivery then on to Peterborough. At 9:29 a.m. I got a message from Helen to say they were on their way over to my house to drop Meghan and Harry off and sure enough a few minutes later their van was reversing up the track to our cottage. I shouted out to my husband that they were here and rushed out to greet them.
It was so exciting to see the pair of them and Meghan in particular whom I had said good bye to in February never expecting it to be so long before we were reunited. We made a huge fuss of Meghan and Harry. Both dogs seemed very contented and relaxed and you would never have guessed they had just finished a very long journey of several thousand miles across Europe.
Adrian and Helen handed them over and said their goodbyes as they still had a very long way to go with many more stops around the UK delivering their charges. Helen handed Meghan’s leishmaniasis tablets over, which Suzan had sent me, so I had a large supply which I had calculated should last me until my next trip to Cyprus when I could stock up again. Then they were off with a wave good bye.
We let Suzan know they had arrived safely and sent her and Harry’s rescuer photos of Helen and Adrian handing them over to us. Suzan said she was in tears and so happy and excited for them.
Then we picked the pair of them up and took them inside. Their new life in the UK was just about to start.
