40 dogs have now been recovered from the airport by KSAR and are being cared for by their staff as well as additional newly rescued dogs and a larger group of dogs still kenneled at the airport. In addition KSAR now have well over 70 cats, 2 tortoises, 3 peacocks and 2 sheep. Yet despite all this they are still undertaking to work on evacuation and re-homing plans for a group of bunnies and parrots. KSAR are eternally grateful for the support of animal lovers everywhere who have continued to help them with donations that have allowed them to quietly continue the daily painstakingly careful operations of liaising with multiple governments and organizations as well as the Taliban, who are the de facto government in Afghanistan and control almost every aspect of life in the city of Kabul.
Evacuating the clinic staff and the animals overland is not currently a viable option as such routes are not safe due to the greater presence of ISIS terrorists near the Pakistani border. Charlotte has therefore decided it is safer to hunker down and wait until flights from Kabul airport are stable enough and plans can be approved by all the relevant authorities in order to enable an evacuation of everyone including the animals.
In conclusion Charlotte feels grateful that they have been able to turn part of the horrible tragedy at Kabul airport into the blessing of managing to operate safely and continue to save lives, when so many other organizations have not been granted any safety or operational permissions. She does not intend to squander these opportunities. KSAR have been alerted to many animal rescue situations in Kabul and have tried to respond to them to the best of their ability and Charlotte vows that they will continue to do so.
I am currently donating to the SPCA who are helping KSAR and I will carry this on until all these wonderful people and animals are safely out of Afghanistan and have started their new lives elsewhere. I continue to be totally in awe of Charlotte. Her courage, sheer grit and determination, loyalty and boundless love are in very short supply in humankind these days. She is an example to us all.
