Two lovable fluffy examples of this latter breed were next to come and stay. Nellie was a gorgeous chocolate brown colour with a white bib and stunning bright amber eyes brimming with intelligence while her younger “sister” Margo had pretty apricot fur. The girls were very cute. Nellie being older was more laid back and well behaved as she knew what was expected of her and took everything in her stride. Margo being younger was cheekier and tried her luck a few times, pushing the boundaries just to see what she could get away with as most youngsters do.
They both had unusual bright coloured harnesses for walking, which were rather like dog coats and they stood patiently while I fumbled about trying to get them on. Nellie actually helped me by raising her front legs in turn so I could get the straps on properly and do them up more easily.
At night time the girls would cuddle up in their beds side by side next to the Aga in my kitchen where they kept lovely and cozy warm and they would soon drift off in to a deep slumber dreaming the dreams that dogs do. I would often find Nellie fast asleep on her back with her legs in the air and a big grin on her face and I wondered which of the activities that she had enthusiastically taken part in earlier that day was being replayed in her mind.
