I bought some kibble along with cans of dog meat for her to eat, but although I had taken a lot of time choosing a good nutritious brand of kibble she wasn’t very keen on it and tended to only eat the meat around it, so I usually ended up giving the kibble to the stray cats who weren’t as choosy.
We went on several trips in the car and Megs was always eager to jump in and sit on my lap, often falling asleep when the journey was a bit longer. If we had to leave her in the car while we went into a shop she would wait patiently for us and we found her dozing contentedly on more than one occasion when we returned.
During her stay with us we took her to the vet again for some more vaccinations and flea, tick and worm treatments. The vet thought Meghan looked very healthy and so much better than when we had taken her there for the first time, which confirmed what I had thought when I set eyes on her again.
One day while we were sitting outside a café in town I noticed a lady and a man at a nearby table. The lady kept looking at Megs and smiling at her. Megs was sitting on my lap at the time for safety as one of the café dogs had taken a dislike to her. We ended up talking to the lady and my husband told her we were looking for a home for Megs. The lady gave me her number and expressed an interest in fostering Megs or even maybe adopting her! The couple had just bought a house in Cyprus and were finalising things before moving in the following month. She confided that her husband had banned her from having any more animals for the first couple of months until they had settled in. They were going back to the UK in a few days to tie up a couple of loose ends and to make a decision on whether to bring their 15 year old Yorkshire terrier to live with them in Cyprus. They weren’t sure if it was the right thing to do given his age and the heat of the Cyprus summers. I was reluctant to make a commitment on Megs, but I told the lady that my friend Suzan always had dogs looking for foster homes as well as forever homes, so I gave her Suzan’s details and she said she would get in touch once they returned to Cyprus the following month.
