Around the same time I had two customers called Poppy, however although they shared the same name they were very different in every other way. The first Poppy to arrive was a young brown and white Jack Russel who was confident and lively and loved playing with tennis balls. The second Poppy was an older German Shepherd cross who was quite shy and reserved, however by the end of her extended stay she had come out of her shell and become a lot more sociable. They quickly became known as Big Poppy and Little Poppy so we could tell which one we were referring to when we were talking about them.
On the afternoon of little Poppy’s departure I had an appointment which I could not change so I asked my husband to hand Little Poppy back to her mum when she arrived to collect her. Halfway through my appointment my mobile phone rang and I heard my husband’s hesitant voice at the other end. He said the lady was there to collect Poppy but he had forgotten which Poppy belonged to her, I confirmed it was Little Poppy and he duly handed the correct Poppy back to her mum. I am glad that he decided to call me and not just take pot luck at guessing which Poppy was the right one. I could just imagine the lady’s face had he handed back Big Poppy instead of Little Poppy as by no stretch of the imagination could one have been passed off for the other. Little Poppy would have had to have grown enormously, aged by 7 years and changed colour beyond recognition. As far as I am aware none of these things are known side effects of staying with Dogs at Home!
