However peace and quiet were to be short lived as I got a booking for a young boxer bitch called Molly and her little companion a Pughasa called Gizmo. To call Molly crazy was an understatement. She was very excitable and loved nothing better than to charge around barking and jumping in the air. When she had another young dog to play with she would career about the garden chasing round and round with her new found friend. She soon earned the nick name “Mad Molly”. I am pleased to report that “Mad Molly” has calmed down a lot with age and is far less mad now she is a couple of years older!
Her companion Gizmo was the cutest little dog I have ever seen. His name was just perfect and summed him up to a tee. When he first came to stay he was only a few months old and I just couldn’t resist him. He was the sort of dog that you just had to pick up and smother with kisses and cuddles. Gizmo or “Gizzy” as he soon became known, would make gorgeous snuffly appreciative noises as I carried him around like a baby and when I kissed him he would lick my nose back. Molly got quite possessive of Gizmo and when I picked him up she made it known that he belonged to her and that she wanted him all to herself, which was very amusing as she obviously sees him as a sort of surrogate baby, just like me! Gizmo was quite cheeky at first, however now he has grown up and got older and wiser he is very well behaved and obedient. I only have to call “Gizmo Pugsa” and he comes immediately. It is very funny that he knows all his nicknames so when I mention the word “Pugsa” he looks up straight away and knows I am talking about him, even though it is only me that calls him by that name! His piggy snorts and snoring noises are so endearing and are a useful way of locating him in the garden when it is dark.
I admit to having threatened to kidnap Gizmo and I am always reluctant to hand him back when it is time for him to go home. His owner has said I can have him if they ever decide they don’t want him anymore, however sadly I don’t think that there is a realistic chance of that ever happening so I will just have to make do with my cute and squashy fixes whenever Gizmo comes to stay. Luckily Molly and Gizmo are regular customers and I always look forward to them coming as they make a very amusing if rather odd pair.
