We didn’t have much water with us but we emptied what we had from our own water bottles into a piece of plastic that we found and that served as a water vessel. The dogs came over to eat and we tried to encourage them to finish up the food. Some of them were quite wary. The really thin light brown dog looked so bad I honestly didn’t think it would last very much longer. It was obviously very ill and I felt very bad about it. As we had Emma in the back of the car we couldn’t take the dog with us, but we decided to get more water for the dogs at the Kaplica hotel and bring it back with us after we had dropped Emma off with Suzanne and see what we could do to help the sick dog at that point.
While we were feeding the dogs a couple of vans from a nearby building site joined the road a few yards further back and the dogs ran off towards the vans. Although the road had relatively light traffic due to the low population density in the area I was concerned that the dogs would get run over as cars drove by quite fast. I was also upset to see that there was a dead dog on the other side of the road that must have been run over.
We carried on to meet up with Suzan and handed Emma over to her care promising to see her again when we returned in June. While we were at Kaplica we filled up 2 or 3 large plastic bottles we had found discarded by the road with water and we took them back to the make shift water container we had made for the stray dogs and filled it for them. We noticed that there were still a couple of piles of the dry dog food we had left them by the side of the road.
Although we kept a look out for the dogs as we drove along we didn’t see them again.
When I got back I sent a video I had made of the dogs to Robert to ask him if he knew anyone who could help the dogs and in particular the sick brown dog. I also sent the video to Yeliz and Suzan. Suzan said she would keep an eye out for them as she drives along that road every day.
