Against all odds Charlotte Maxwell-Jones, who was unable to evacuate her animals from Kabul airport prior to the US withdrawal, managed to recover some of the dogs which had been let loose by the US military. Sadly some of the animals died and some were taken into custody at the airport, but Charlotte and her staff worked tirelessly to care for those animals and did everything humanly possible to recover as many dogs as possible from the airport debacle.
Throughout all this, Charlotte carried on caring for the tidal wave of animals that kept on arriving at her shelter in Kabul while also conducting extremely delicate and difficult diplomatic negotiations with the Taliban government in order to be allowed to carry on operating in Afghanistan. They have now secured an OFAC license which will enable them to carry on operating as a Non-profit organization and Charlotte plans to carry on her work for as long as it is safe for her to do so.
In order to make space for more animals to be rescued and received into the centre, they have now been granted permission to evacuate 165 dogs and 145 cats from Afghanistan via Dubai to Canada and then onward to several rescue centres in the USA with whom they are working. Among the dogs being evacuated is little Bea, the disabled puppy that Charlotte refused to give up at the airport and ended up carrying back home after she was denied permission to evacuate her rescue animals. This is such a wonderful happy ending to the disastrous situation that Charlotte, her staff and animals found themselves in.
A large amount of the original sums of money which had been set aside to evacuate the animals in August has had to be spent on food for them and for the ever increasing numbers of desperate animals arriving at the centre. Due to the precarious political and financial situation in the country the price of food and medicine has tripled and in addition KSAR have taken on more staff to cope with the 300+ animals in their care. Charlotte has set up a gofundme page and is appealing for funds to help with the evacuation. If you are able to donate in anyway no matter how small the link to donate is

They are also appealing for volunteers to help them in Vancouver, Canada where their plane will land. If you are able to help with administrative tasks, ground transportation, animal care at the primary facility or if you are a fosterer or rescue centre and are able to offer temporary housing for some of the animals please get in touch by emailing them on [email protected]
