However I needn’t have worried as the two officers that came to inspect my home put me at ease right from the start. I made them a cup of tea and we sat down and discussed a few rules and regulations regarding the running of animal boarding premises, then they met Genghis and heard the story of how he had come to live in the UK. I showed them around the downstairs areas where my furry guests would be staying and took them into the garden as well.
They were very pleased with what they saw and thought the location of my house was ideal in as much as I didn’t have any immediate neighbours. The officers said that unfortunately they often received complaints about dogs barking from the neighbours of people who were running a dog boarding business from a terraced house and that they then had to review the terms of the licence they had issued. In my case due to the location of the property they felt that there shouldn’t be any noise issues with neighbours but advised me to let my neighbours know what I was planning to do as a matter of courtesy.
At the end of the meeting I was delighted to be presented with my Animal Boarding Licence and as I already had my insurance set up I was now ready to receive my very first customers…
