The first run I bought on line had appeared to be of a decent size however when it arrived I was disappointed to find that it was actually significantly smaller than I had thought and was only really suitable for guinea pigs. I made sure I did not make the same mistake again when I bought a second run for rabbits and was very pleased when I received it as it provided an ample area for them to run around as well as having a little house which offered shelter and privacy and which crucially, due to the clever manner it attached on to the side of the enclosure, did not detract from the space available for exercise and the placing of toys.
Once I had assembled all my hutches and runs I selected an area of the garden down by my shed that was secluded and sunny and penned it off from the remainder of the garden, in order to provide a secure area for my small customers. I placed all my small animal paraphernalia inside and was ready to receive my first guest.
Patch, a black and white 8 month old female rabbit, was my first small animal customer. She was very friendly and loved being made a fuss of and having lots of cuddles. On wet days when she couldn’t go outside in the run I let her run around our conservatory. It was quite amusing to see her explore her surroundings and I was very impressed by how brave she was considering her size.
