Helen had set up a Messenger chat group for all the people that were adopting dogs travelling on this trip and she posted regular updates with photos and videos of the dogs when they stopped off for a walk around to stretch their legs. There was also a link to a brilliant tracker app which we could use to track the van carrying our precious cargo across Europe. I was stunned at how fast they seemed to be covering the vast distances and was excited to check the app several times a day to see where they were and what progress they had made. There was even a street view option on the app so we could see for ourselves what the area where they were passing through was like.
Then all of a sudden when I checked the app late evening on 6th September I was astonished to see that they were in Calais at the Eurotunnel terminal waiting to check in with the dogs. Helen was trying to see if they would be allowed to cross that night. Then they would have to clear customs in Folkstone where they would be handing over a couple of their charges to their new families, who had traveled down to collect them, before continuing on driving across England dropping dogs off on their way.
Although I looked at the app several times after that, the van stayed stubbornly parked up at the Eurotunnel pet reception area, so I calculated that they most likely wouldn’t arrive until late morning/afternoon of 7th September and decided that the best thing to do was to get a good night’s sleep in preparation for my new arrivals.
